We invite you to discover the largest Ombu Forest in America, riding from Barra de Valizas by countryside and wetlands until reaching the Castillos Lagoon!
We leave at 9:00 am from our Meeting Point in Barra de Valizas.
We ride through pastures and wetlands, passing through some old Estancias that form the history of this wonderful place. The extensive green plains give us several opportunities for fun canters. The ombu trees combined with many other different native trees form the magical ‘Ombu Forest’, an ecosystem of very peculiar characteristics. Between the lagoon, wetlands and forest we can see an endless number of bird species of colorful plumages and varied species.
Upon arriving at Laguna de Castillos, we visit the mysterious Ombu forest in the Rincon de los Olivera. This one that has given so much to speak to the botanists from diferent parts of the world with their curiosities and peculiarities that are not repeated anywhere else. Castillos Lagoon has been included as a RAMSAR site since 2015. In addition, the whole coast lagoons in Rocha are a Biosphere Nature Reserve declared by UNESCO. After a well-deserved lunch on the banks of the lagoon and under the ombúes, we can enjoy a nap next to our horses. And for the most adventurous a dip in the lagoon to relieve the heat!
In the afternoon, once the energies have been replenished, we return along the lagoon and cross the countryside through new landscapes. At the end we arrive at our starting point for this adventure: Barra de Valizas.
